Kazgermunai implements new technologies for oil production improvement in Kyzylorda Region
11 february 2025
The Kyzylorda Region, which has been a major aspect of Kazakhstan's Oil Industry for more than thirty years, is presently, showing a significant production decline for various objective reasons. Therefore, there is need of finding new ways of increase production efficiency at the Southern Region Oil and Gas Industry and is an urgent priority now more than ever.
Experts point to the wide range of measures that should take to improve the current situation. Certainly, such efforts require the comprehensive participation of both local Executive Authorities and Subsurface Users.
JV Kazgermunai LLP, as a one of the largest Oil Production Company in the Region, is trying to conduct implementing new exploration and production technologies to solve this task that help increase productivity and improve the operation of existing wells. One of these innovative technologies is the flow filtration redistribution and input profile (injectivety) change of wells that significantly extends the effective profitable development period.
Flow filtration redistribution is the process of optimizing the movement of fluid in a reservoir to allow for a more evenly fluid flow distribution among wells. Input profile change of wells includes controlling the fluid and oil, ensuring optimal conditions for production at each stage of operation. It is particularly important in deeper development of fields where are frequently have to face uneven oil flow distribution that may result in production effectiveness reduction and run life of wells reduction.
The successful example in apply of flow filtration redistribution and input profile change of wells technology in the Company was the pilot test conformance control project, that has implemented in the injection well, Central Akshabulak field in 2024. Based on the results of performance monitoring, an increase in oil production has recorded that confirms the high efficiency of this technology.
The pilot test has shown that using conformance control it is possible to significantly increase well productivity and increase the volume of recoverable oil, moreover, reducing operating expenditures and extending the period of profitable production.
Due to the excellent results obtained at the Central Akshabulak field, in Kazgermunai has decided to apply conformance control technology at the other fields wherewith opens up new opportunities for improving oil production efficiency.
